In my mind, there’s a simple answer here: design will always be subjective and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When I go to a lawyer to solve a legal problem, I trust them to solve it, because I know nothing about the legalities involved. But when I ask a designer to develop a new brand identity for my business, I will ask them to change it if I don’t like it (since I’m the one that needs to implement the business & marketing strategies surrounding the visual brand).
There’s two very different decisions at play here: in the one instance I don’t have an objective opinion that will influence the relationship (as I know nothing about law), but in the second I have a subjective opinion that makes or breaks the relationship (and end-result). So these two things can’t be compared at all, as they work within different contexts completely.
